My first job was selling shoes. It was the nineties, so were talking platform heels and grunge boots. I wore em all!! Then in college I managed a shoe store where we paid for shoes straight out of our paycheck. Oh no! I bought doc martens and fluevogs and ugly Birkenstocks. I've been good lately though, as I need $$ for groceries and bills. I bought a pair of silver Fly London's last summer and haven't even worn them, so that was where I cut myself off!

I shop on the internet a lot. I try to combine all my purchases from one place. So when UPS delivers a package I just say Oh, I got 6 months of flea protection for the cats. Meanwhile there is a new shirt or pair of shoes in the box as well.

Lol, Birkenstocks are ugly/beautiful. I just treated myself to two pairs. The iconic two strap Arizona. Haven't had fluevogs for awhile. I recently purchased a pair of Hoka One One's. Have you seen them? Marshmallow sport shoes. Dreamy.

Amazon is great for packing extras into one purchase. Flies under the radar so well. Zappos works well, too. Added a lesportsac bag to my last shoe order.

When I worked retail, I called the part of my check that went to purchases as fashion tithe.

You're not alone freenow. I combined an order of books for my kid with the purchase of my first kindle. Idk, thought the books made the kindle seem less indulgent. Or expensive.

I think most people with BiPolar has some spending habit that isn't good. The thing is, if you know your doing it and shouldn't be, why don't you stop? If you can afford to blow money then its no big deal, but if you can't and your jeopardizing your families economic stability just to have more shoes....why would you do that?

I have 4 pairs of shoes I purchased at the goodwill. I buy used on ebay. The point is my husband and uncle believe in the one or two pair of everything, so I look rather flambouyant. I'm just recently diagnosed with twisted hips, so it seems I'm going to have to go to the chiropractor forever and I have plastic flip flops but my feet are really bad and he has to touch them. I purchased some teva sandals on ebay for almost nothing that I can wear socks with. I was trying to hide them is all. It seems this year I'm overloading my family with medical bills and burdens. blah blah blah, thanks for listening

I can't walk into or by the shoe department without buying something. I was REALLY good yesterday. I took my son shoe shopping and I REFUSED to let myself get sucked in. So proud of myself! (I really REALLY wanted this pair of Joe Boxer slip-ons...but I didn't buy 'em.)

No you are not alone. I used to shop and hide my shopping bags in my walk in closet so my ex husband couldn't find them. I've been overspending though of late. Took out 3 credit cards and spent half my rent money. Hypomania will do that. I adore shoes!

I'm sorry you're having health problems right now. Likely, you may want some comfortable shoes with support soon. That's what triggered my latest shoe fest. My husband is of the basic two pairs are enough mindset, too. Anyways, I've lived with foot pain for awhile, and finally realized comfortable shoes would make my life more pleasant.

So, I support you making yourself comfortable and happy, even if every once in awhile you feel the need to hide your shoes under the car seat. Sending warm hugs x

I have no problem with people being comfortable....I got rid of my husband of 26 years and now I'm quite comfortable!

With my first husband I would go shopping in "real" stores there was no online buying but I would wait until he went to work on the night shift and bring in my stuff and hide it under the bed. My mother would buy me clothes from time to time and he was a chronic pot smoker so when he would say is that new?? I would say no you saw it on me just the other day!!lol! or I would tell him if he wasn't too high that my mother bought it for me.
