my dr. wrote me a script for serequel as needed? Don't you suppose to take it on a normal basis? Is it safe to take it and come off quickly?

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

It does depend on what you are taking it for, though, and the dose. What is it for? Psychosis? If it's for psychosis, you need to take fairly high doese, and if you don't take them regularly, it will knock you out for three days. However, if it's a small dose to take as needed for sleep, then it's totally fine.
How much is your dose and what is it PRN for?
I have done this type of thing (from doses as small as 50 to up to 400mg, like I said). It is safe--but like I said, you might be happier if you do it everyday so you can habituate to the sleepiness.
I will talk to my pdoc about it next trip
lol
It makes me fuzzy the next day also.
As to dosage, I take 200mg at bedtime. I take an extra 100mg if I wake up during the night and can't get back to sleep, and 100mg during the day if I'm feeling "fast."
One serious caution I have is that at 200mg l sometimes nod off suddenly and without a lot of warning.
The other issue which no-one else has mentioned is the possiblity of Tardive Dyskinsia. That is repeated involuntary muscle movements. I had it in my foot with Loxapine, and the pdoc had me quit immediately. Then my daughter started harassing me about all the noise I was making with my mouth, and I had sores all over my tongue, from rubbing against my teeth. I looked it up in the doctor's bible - the Compendium, and it said TD usually starts with the tongue, and it is sometimes irreversible. And sometimes only take one dose - all antispychotics, old, new, typical, anti-typical can do this. I had it for over 2 years, after stopping Seroquel, and my doc put me on MAO's which conflict with every food and drug in the world, and then valium, which finally stopped it, but left me valium dependent.
Usually this condition occurs in middle age women (the perfect description of me!), but it can happen in anyone. So if you really need it, to control mania, or even hypomania, then take it, but there are lots of sleep meds which would be a far better choice if that is the only issue. In Canada we have Imovane, which works really well, but it is not approved in the US, because of pharmacetical wars. So I wouldn't use Seroquel. Get something that puts you under and and doesn't leave you sleepy and drugged the next day.
That being said, I had TD on Abilify (the drug least likely to cause it) but it has minimized to just hand twitches, and occasional tounge twitches.
Also, I have experienced about 20 lbs. weight gain, and I have also slept a little more and had acardia in a minor form. Basically, it just manifests itself in the artieries. That happens to just 6-7% of all the people taking Seroquel.
I currently take 300 mg Seroquel XR and 1000 mg Seroquel instant form.
So, if you need to take Seroquel, come on and jump in. Whether regular or PRN, the water is fine.
