How well does self talk work for you.
Some times it works miracles for me and some times I just go back to doing what ever it was I was doing before.
If you don't know what self talk is, it's when you consciously tell your self what to think instead of panicking and reacting to a situation.
Example
You get fired.
Normally you'd panic right?
Well with self talk you would tell your self positive things to get through it with out the nee jerk reaction
such as
this is a new beginning. Maybe now I will find a better job that will be more satisfying.
I hope every one understands that I"m not very good at describing.

how much do you do it? And how well does it work for you?

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

To convince myself to do Anything out of my depressed comfort zone - takes much "self talk" and reminders!
Even when it doesn't work - KNOWING I want to smile, laugh, play, work, be with people - also helps. It CAN happen again, and again - just like depression LOL
TRYING or not giving up is the most import thing I have to do - fighting this dis-ease. So, self talk or challenging, not settling? Huge in Gina's world... because I would do nothing (year after year, I have it sucks) if I didn't Try Harder....
I'm still struggling with being able to talk myself into getting busy putting thoughts into actions
And I don't have much success in telling myself to think differently than I am thinking at any given time.
But I DO know, for the most part, when what I'm is bullshit and when it's right on!!!!
That's a big help!!!
So my familydoc thought going to adult day program would help. I've been going a couple of months now.
So far no anxiety help, one class we do the "close your eyes and picture walking thru a park...now see the birds and waterfall" and we do that for about 25 mins. I don't last 1 min at doing this exercise, I hear everything and my mind is wondering everywhere and I have no idea where the park is?
I stopped going to this class and focus on the education class, which describes the self talk you do, but again, I go home and find myself facing the same anxiety issues.
Thinking about something else when I have a panic attack just doesn't work for me, so that's my input on the subject.
mindfulness and thought correction; probably the ultimate tool we have, i'm usually content when i'm doing that right, miserable when i neglect it
talking to oneself; harmless and a way to get something fun out of the disorder lol... just don't get sucked into the conversation; that can be bad as it defeats the mindfulness thing :/
I am crap at the overriding. Maybe we need a Self Talk club here to encourage each other to override our negative selves.
