...and yeah, i'm with ya'
never, ever woulda' seen myself as a pill-popper
Me I just take what I want first thing in the morning with my coffee all in one gulp and the rest of the day I don't give it another thought. Except for pain relief but that is only when I decide I've had enough and want some relief.
Those weekly morning, noon and evening skittle boxes came in handy for a friend who had difficulty remembering when and what to take.
Every Sunday evening it became a ritual. I would allow her to load for the next week without helping her and then check to be sure it was correct.
The doctor told me it was a good way for me to gauge her cognitive state. I quite agreed.
She did make some mistakes but rarely got flustered when I showed them to her. If she did then I knew something was truly troubling her and we would discuss what it was.
Just remember to always be sure. Systems do work to help minimize any confusion.
Now I am just taking 5 a day. 3 in the morning, 2 at night. I am lucky and glad the BP med I am on is working. It is the longest I ever been compliant, and it is just 1 pill twice a day now. The others are 2 different meds for the HIV. If I was not BP, the doc would have me on one that is just 1 pill a day for that as well. But one of the meds (it is a combo of meds in 1 pill) does have a side effect of depression, more so than just the general warning they give.
I do think they need to think about the number of pills people have to take. However, with everyone being so different it would be very difficult to make combos of the common BP meds and things.
If a lot are vitamins and suppliments I would check around to see if there are any combo or multi ones you can take that fullfull what you need or want. May take a little work and time, but may be worth it if it cuts a few phyical pills out.
Organizing my own pharmacy into 2 rainbow colored 28 cubby organizers and prn containers takes me an hour or more.
I have pill alarms on my phone to remind me.
but, trying to find acceptance of needing pills at all is the hard part...a long and winding road.
I once mixed up my Seroquel with my Depakote in low light. Simmular shape and the color difference was not noticeable. About an hour later, I was like what the *blankity blank is going on*, then looked at the contained and was like OMG!!!!
