Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
My kids are now 21, 18 and 14. I would suggest building open communication (not interrogation ha ha ha. Its a fine line sometimes) and clear ground rules and expectations--about school, friends, boys/sex, curfew and house rules/chores etc. Privileges are based on trust and not a right just because you are breathing. Spending time with the family and family meals are more important than ever. I try to spend some time alone doing something fun with my kids individually to give them the time and space to open up. Believe it or not, teens can be about as needy (in a different way) than a 5 year old. Its just more complex.
