Racing thoughts

Last night I experienced racing thoughts for the first time in a long time> I was actually scared. When I seen my psychiatrist a month ago we agreed that I ween off taking Ativan on a daily basis and just keep it on hand for emergencys. This Monday I saw my psych again and she feels that I'm on a higher dose of Lithium than necessary and the side effects of the Perphenazine could be reduced by reducing my dose of that as well. I felt I was doing ok, and that I'd rather have side effects that I have learned to live with than do any med changes but she insisted. So I have been taking 150 less of Lithium and 2 mg less of Perphenazine. and I've noticed that my mind isn't so clear. Then last night, I felt really off. when I went to bed, my mind started racing< I hate the feeling which also caused me to have anxiety.
I do have the Ativan, but will it help my racing thoughts?

Well, ativan can calm you down some but I would imagine the racing thoughts were probably due to your lowered dose of lithium, especially if you had them before you started taking lithium.

I take Seroquel for sleep and racing thoughts, it works wonders. At times it gives me restless legs but it comes and goes. I would not be able to shut my mind off without. It could be something stressful happened and you are dealing with it. People that are not BP have that happen on occasion. It is sometime our mind processing what has happened.

Hopefully pdoc and you can get it figured out. Just food for thought.:)

I agree with Halter as well to help with the calm ... Are you seeing your pdoc soon angel??... Perhaps you need to go back up a little on the other meds/med....x

Ativan helps me with anxiety and racing thoughts. My doc is careful how I take it and so am I. I rarely exceed two to three a day (1 mg.). Everyone is different but my thoughts are that since you have changed so much quickly that you might want to try to wait it out and see if things balance out. Maybe in the mean time use some relaxation and meditation techniques? They help some. Sorry for your anguish, I know how you feel. xo

    Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.
