Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

With Bipolar 2, I also have a lot of anxiety. I'm taking meds. but it doesn't seem to do as much as it used to. My Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner suggested 3 different meds. We could switch and gave me a list of them and said to research them and pick the one I would like to try. I don't remember what 2 of them were but one was Latuda. I remember people complaining about that one on here. All 3 of these meds were very expensive. It doesn't look like those will be an option. I'm not sure if they work on anxiety. It was mostly for depression which seems to go hand and hand with anxiety.
I need something because this depression and anxiety is to painful and I'm really tired of dealing with it for so many years. I keep hearing about reading about how. CBD treats anxiety. I live in Oregon so there are cannabis shops near where I live.
Should I consult a Dr. before I try CBD oil or can I try this on my own? Are the many types of CBD oil? How much do shop employees know about the products ?
I'm just researching different treatment options.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

But, if you're going to look into it, go to your Pdoc and talk to them about it. It has to be able to work with the current meds your on safely.
Your Dr. can give you all the information you'll need to know how it will effect you medically and interact with your current medications, as to where people who sell it aren't Dr.'s and don't have that information.
Yes, clear it with your doc, and give it a shot. Why not?

Find a reputable company (legally cbd oil should have no more than .01 - .03 thc in it) and then decide which delivery method could work best for you.
I started taking it last march and can only say I have not looked back and my only other psych meds now are 100mg topamax and 1mg xanax (the latter only rarely if needed) I used to be on several meds which did not work for me for very long as I am highly med resistant, not just with psych meds but with most meds - they either don't work at all, work poorly or sometimes have a converse (opposite effect) reaction (eg. Valium could make me more energetic rather than have any sedating results)
The deep depression interspersed with mania which I have had for years have almost completely disappeared. Suicidal ideation is no longer an hourly occurrence for the first time since I was 15yrs old.
I still have depressive episodes and beginnings of mania but these days I am more easily able to use the cbt, dbt, mindfulness, meditation tools etc, to hold on to stability.
I also eat only an anti inflammatory diet, exercise regularly and practice gratitude frequently throughout the day.
I started with CBD tincture which is drops that are administered sublingually ie under the tongue, hold for 30seconds and then swallow. I started at 100mg 30ml bottles and my maintenance dose for a few months was 1,500 mg - one dropper/day. However I find oil of any kind very difficult to tolerate and managed to find a cbd oil that I could vape at only 300mg. I no longer use the drops and find that vaping the menthol flavoured one is brilliant for anxiety which with CPTSD was very limiting in so many ways. I get it from a company called abis. I bought the first bottle in May and I have not finished it yet 10ml cost 30 euro, vape pen 30 euro (a one off spend on the pen). You can actually get vape pens for as little as a few dollars from fast tech.
Again do your research, the thing that worries people with vape pens is when burning nicotine products VG and PG are produced and can send tiny particles into the air. This does not happen with cbd oil as it is an entirely different product.
CBD oil is classified as a food supplement and has zero thc so it cannot make you become stoned but has many health benefits. It is absolutely worth researching it and giving it a try before adding yet another psych med into your combo.
Your pdoc may not be well educated about it and some of them confuse it with cannabis products which contain thc and do make you stoned.
Like most things it works well for some and not for others. It works for me for anxiety and depression but not for pain at all. A good friend uses it for pain and she gets enormous relief from it and was able to stop taking lyrica and lose the 'lyrica bloating'. another friend is recovering from pancreatic cancer and is finding great relief from gastric issues with low dose cbd tincture.
You have nothing to lose by trying it and everything to gain. Pema's tea and honey sound like a great combo.
Good luck with it, whatever you decide and I hope you find what works best for you.
hugs
After nearly 40yrs of getting only intermittent relief, I cannot begin to express how wonderful this has made my life in so many ways.
I've reported DenialSmith who has pulled up old threads to try and promoted all sorts of things to the infertile and anxious among others.
Take care, everyone!
