Psych Meds and Pain Killers

I threw out my back on Weds. night. So I went to the doctor on Friday and he Rx'd me percocet and a muscle relaxer. He didn't specify when to take the meds around my psych meds...so I'm curious.

I haven't been taking my psych meds along with the percocet or anything, but I'm supposed to be taking xanax during the day as well as the percocet. I'm afraid to mix them, so I don't.

Does anyone know if I'm supposed to hold off on the xanax while taking the percocets?

I don't know but your pharmacist might if you give them a call. Just a thought.

I share your concern about mixing certain meds whose function seems to overlap. That's a good idea to talk to your pharmacist.

yes, ask the pharmacist..I get a bit confused over that stuff..you probably need to tell them what BP meds you are on too

I have gotten really sick before in the past mixing pain pills with anxiety meds. Not Fun.. but I think everyones chemistry is different so best to consult with your pharmacist for sure.

I guess I could call a 24 hour pharmacy. My own pharmacist didn't say anything and they know all the meds I'm taking....and since it's Sunday, they're closed today.

But I'll definitely be sure to ask a pharmacist.

Hanna, be careful mixing the two, but talk to your pdoc also. I have found that pain meds cause me to become agitated so to go without your xanax may be a problem also. It is important you find out so you can treat both health issues and not forsake one. Hugs

call the pharmacist or even do some research online....i wouldnt personally mix the two. my friend has IC and is perscribed an asston of pain killers. she has terrible anxiety inbetween but the pain killers tend to make her loopy and rather sedated so its kind of a fair trade off for her. i wish MY doctors actually gave me pain killers when i needed them. everyone else always seems to get them and when im withering in pain they tend to tell me to take tylenol...

I've been taking narcotics and muscle relaxers for years for Fibro pain and mix it with my xanax because like shelly said, the narcotics cause me to feel a bit agitiated and euphoric. They used to anyway. They do increase my anxiety, but I have to take them. I would talk to your pdoc about it. That's what I did. Hope this helps and hope you get to feeling better soon. xoxo

I had surgery a few weeks ago and I think it was percocet that they prescribed for me. I took it with my meds but I did not take my klonopin while I was taking them.

    Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner.  I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings.  But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!
