I have lately been scheming for a way to escape my comfortable but mostly humdrum life....I am only 25, almost 26, and long for an exciting career-a change of pace and scenerey, indepedence, even though I know with my SSDI, medicines, and my mental health still precarious that these things will have to come later, and that maybe my dreaming is makling me feel worse.
Is this a quarter life crisis, and natural....is this mostly or all a mixed state feeling? Can you relate? What are some fun and inexpensive ways to escape in the city?
Who has overcome only wanting to move forward from being family bound, to setting off in your own at my age?
I know that this is a lot....but I am asking humbly for help and suggestions! :-) Thank you SO much in advance, I appreciate it more than you know.

I think that dreaming keeps us alive at times when things are dull. They are our wish list if you will to a better life, one that we can accomplish anything or be anyone.Keep dreaming as this may motivate you one day to something you may long to do not matter the age....

I agree with dorkieyorikie, there's nothing wrong with wanting more for yourself, there's so much out there to see and do, so dreaming about a better life transitioning into a reality where you are more independent is a good way to do it. Even at 50 I am still dreaming and wanting more and plotting and planning a way to get what I want. Working at it everyday. It's not the getting there but the going that has to be good. I hope you have good dreams when your head hits the pillow tonight and wake up to daydreams of a life that suits you. Good luck :)

If you have not already done so, try something creative like writing or drawing or photography. Writing is good because it's free.

All I got to say is never put yourself down for having dreams. Dream big! Dream hard! And go for it.

Jasmine, just because you're on SSDI, medication, and your a bit episodic, it's completely natural to want more out of life! The key is to look at things that are realistic and obtainable, to start with small goals (fun things - music, meet ups, whatever you really enjoy), and then to take those steps, get the confidence from achieving them under your belt, and maybe see a career counselor to look into things that interest you. It's not a quarter life crisis - more like a "I'm feeling better and now want more out of life!" Good for you! That takes a lot of courage.

Thank you all, I am touched by all your encouragment!!! :) hugs, Twilight, Ev, and K!

Hi Jasmine, I totally know what u mean by wanting more out of life than the same old hum drum. I long for exactly that myself. I feel very up and down and working w/different meds. But then I think, what if this is all envrironmental and just changing up my life would in itself make me feel better? But then I wonder if I am even stable enough to take on a major life change? I don't know. But it is very encouraging to know there are others who feel the same way you do! And I agree with the comment that it's progress to want more out of life, to desire change! Take care!
