I'm going to see my psychiatrist this morning and I want him to take me off lithium so my thyroid isn't all messed up. Also I feel numb and depressed, and not like myself. I don't think he'll give a hoot but it's worth a shot. Do you think I should bring up that I want to go the alternative route? He makes me so nervous..

Whats yr dosage? have you had blood tests to monitor serum lithium levels? you can combine it with other mood stabilsers..

Yes, Astro is right. I have been on Lithium for 3 years now (1200mg daily) but I have blood work done about every 2-3 months to check my level of Lithium. You may need to tell your doctor and he could try adjusting your dosage. I know people that take another mood stabilizer with their Lithium but I haven't. Good luck.

Hi sweetz, yes be as honest as you can. I have my first appiontment with a pdoc in over a yr, im freakin out, but i plan to be totally honest, that the only wasy i can get the help i truly need.

Thanks guys.

I went to see him this morning and he decided to ween me off lithium. He says my skin will clear up and because I am on numerous medications, taking out the lithium may reduce the flatness.

We shall see! I am a bit nervous because taking out something like lithium all together will definitely make a shift in my mental state. Hopefully in a good way!
