Perhaps she is losing control and after 18 years hopefully your boyfriend will show some restraint and kindness
Is it hard for her to step oven the little ledge in the cat little... I saw a Cat from Hell episode and the cat was having hip problems and it hurt so they cut down the little box so it was even with the floor... Maybe put a couple of more little boxes out... She may not have as much feeling post surgery... Big hug sweetie...x

Jan had some really good ideas. I work at a cat shelter and if this happens first we always have the cat medically cleared, then eliminate environmental things (like does she not like a covered box, or did you recently change litter, is the box easy to get to, etc)...after that its tough. She could be losing control. Perhaps she can't find her litterbox? By sight or maybe by smell? Can she get in and out of it easily? Does she need to be restricted to a smaller area so she can make it there in time?

I hope something helps, and I really hope your bf doesn't go off the deep end. The girl is old! Let us know how it goes...

Could she be ill from a kidney disease? 18 is pretty old! Has the vet checked out her hips for discomfort? There are pain meds (anti-inflammatories) that you can give your cat but I'm not sure if they would interfere with urination...?

Tell your boyfriend when he gets old, you're putting him out to pasture!

I would make an appointment at your vet. Maybe try to put the cat box where she is currently going the bathroom. Hope this helps.

After 18 years she could just be having trouble controlling her bladder. I hope your bf had some compassion for her. Being put outside may do her more harm.

Thank you for the suggestions. There's no way I'll ever let him put her outside. I don't think he ever would anyway. She just had a full check up at the vet 3 weeks ago. I don't know what to think. She's gone in her liter box twice today. Maybe she has times where she can't hold it anymore.

The Vet said on her last visit at her age we just need to make her comfortable. Maybe I'll try adding another liter box.

cats do this sometimes - why? just because that's why. any changes either inside or outside can set this behaviour off.

good advice from others - another thing you can do and your vet will probably be able to advise - there is something like a plug in air freshener - it contains something that helps cats relax.

I hate to tell you this, but this is a sign of kidney failure. She needs to have her blood checked to see if this is what is going on. It is common for older cats. I've had 2 with it, one was 20 and the other 15 years old.

Kidney issues/ diabetes may also lead to inappropriate urination outside LBox.

As Sadie said too any changes regarding the litter box / litter as she mentioned can trigger these types of prob.

She is 18 and the average life span for an indoor cat is 14 years and usually a little shorter for an indoor/outdoor cat.

They cleared her for a UTI and no crystals were found I'm assuming?

Hopefully your bf wont be kicked to the curb when he starts to fail... just sayin'

Shoot my cat is only a couple of years old and has always peed on stuff. I love her so I wont get rid of her but I know how it sucks. I hope you find out whats going on with your baby though.
