Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Hi BD community! I was diagnosed last year, currently on lithium/seroquel and mostly stable, maybe. It depends on the day.
Well, I need opinions:
My wife massively betrayed my trust. We've talked about hospitalization before and what we would do in that situation (mainly talk about it, why, then go in and I agreed to trust her in that decision). Today she noticed I seemed angry, I asked her why and was sure I wasn't being angry (I was in hindsight), then she said she wanted me to leave. I was about to leave in half an hour and thought she understood I was in the middle of something. She said again, Leave. Me not being clear that she meant Now, I kept working on my thing. I might've argued about not being angry as well. And she says: Do you want me to call the sheriff or the ambulance to help you out? LEAVE NOW.
The betrayal being her throwing those words around because she doesn't want to be around me, not because I actually needed the hospital. Then it triggered a medium sized freak out so I probably was acting hospital worthy at that point. But the end result being I'm not in the hospital and feel an ultimate betrayal for those flippant words.
Am I blowing this out of proportion?

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

Why did she want you to leave?... Is this your home?
If it is I would have a serious discussion about this.... If you weren't out of line and she's using the sheriffs department to intervene on relationship problems that aren't necessary she's the one who should be considering getting help IMHO
I would stay cool if she threatens this in the future and if the police come have a calm and cool discussion with them.... They can see if this is manipulation and nonsense for themselves
I really have more concerns about the state of your marriage if your wife would use an illness in this cruel way IF there was no reason to
Big hug.....xo
Also, thank you Sun Cloud! She's not manipulative at all, in fact she's way healthier than me or really anyone I've met, therapists included. That's why yesterday just struck me as a seriously painful WTF? But I have a tendency to make mountains out of molehills so I don't entirely trust myself when something feels wrong. Will do on trying to stay cool :-)
