Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
I give my self a time limit. Usually about one hour where I have my own permission to think about it to my hearts content. To get it out of your system as fast as possible.
When that hour is up schedule your next "hour" of obsession time for a later date like tomorrow. Find something else important that needs to be done and work on it. Keep your self busy.
If you forget to think about it tomorrow than move on to your next obsession.
You also have to psych your self out. Tell your self how bored with it you are and you'd rather think about "fill in the blank" and then focus on that for a while.
Also my favorite strategy is to tell myself I'm very busy and I have way more important things to be doing. Make a long list of all the things you can think of that need done and start going down the list and checking them off as you go. Don't for get to add new things to the list as you think of them.
Obsession is hard. I've had to deal with it too. It's hard to break but you just have to keep telling your self, (like scarlet ohara did) "I'll think about this later." and then never do. It's worked for me once or twice.
good luck.
I don't think it's always the same medicine. What works for one doesn't always work for others.
I wish I could remember which meds have been mentioned, but I can't.
You say you 'saw' a Pdoc, but that you 'see' a therapist. Does that mean that you are no longer seeing a Pdoc? Perhaps you should be.
Also, I don't know what kind of therapy you are receiving, but some kinds are better than others, when it comes to treating obsessive thoughts.
There's some good information about which meds are used to help with obsessive thoughts and what kind of therapy works well, at the following site:

Good luck!!! I hope you manage to break free from those obsessive thoughts that plague you!!!! (((((Hugs)))))
