Am obsessing over seeing a new pdoc 2moro. I feel like I am "cheating" on my current pdoc. I don't dislike my current pdoc, but it seems like he prescribes meds easily, one on top of another. I am taking 400mg lamictal a day , 900mg neurontin a day, 1 mg klonopin 3x day, and now geodon....40mg.

I've not been very stable for a decent amount time for about one and a half years. I may get a few days....tops a week. I have to say that I am not always compliant, though I am MORE times than not.

My insurance allows me to go to mds without a referral. Am I breaking a pdoc "law" by getting a secong opinion?? I think I am very anxious, indecisive and obsessing over the change.......which I bring with me into docs offices and it just makes me sounds like a blumbering idiot.

Can anyone give me some advice??

No, by no means are you breaking any "laws".....it is always a good thing to get a 2nd opinion when you are in question about anything....that will also help you be able to meet pdoc #2 first, and see if you like him/her any better.

i think if you haven't been stable for a year and a half, it is a good idea to talk to another one.

i think it would be hard to tell what meds are doing what now, since the other doctor added onto ones that werent really working.

I think you are right not to trust your docs fast and furious med methods...always go with your gut! that is a lot of medication without very positive results. I see my doc tomorrow, too. and this means I will be up all night trying to make a list of my woes, because I was not as diligent as I should have been in tracking my symptoms. I am dragging my boyfriend in with me so that when I get my dr'soffice flusters and can't remember a damn thing wrong with me, I can poke him and he can fill in the gaps.
you should def. get that second opinion...although I think in this case you are really looking for a dr whose pill philosophy is closer to your own less is more attitude. this may not be the one, and that is ok.

It is your pdocs job to get you under control. I think it depends on whether or not you think you can be ok with less meds. I cant handle geodon.

I get flustered too......I know it sucks. Then half way home something i wanted to ask pops back into my head. I try to bring notes etc. so I'll remember but I get sidetracked sooo easy!

Geodon is an antipsychotic med. Like seroquel, zyprexa, abilify. Good stuff for the racy thoughts, anxiety from hell, and mixed bipolar episodes, and my rage,but not working so good for the OCD tonight.

What did the Geodon do to you??

Am curious.....been having some mild tardive symptoms. Has been helping with lots of bipolar symptoms though I may not be able to stay on it.

oooo, geodon. hmm. That list really hits home with me...esp.since I have been more honest in my personal inventory. a decade of pattern behind me doesn't hurt either. my rage is at the top of my hit list....I feel ya..I will def. ask my doc, so THANKYOU!
