Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
I have gone off meds entirely exactly twice for exactly one month each time with Psych oversight to address these same questions you are having even though BP runs rampant in my DNA.
If I was having these questions again, I would talk to my Psych.
Or get a second opinion if I didn't have a close and productive working relationship with my Psych.
Much luck.
These kinds of questions can make us so anxious...
Xx.
And no matter WHAT the 'real' label is, it can sometimes take a long time to find just the right meds.
Lamictal isn't a 'pop it and feel better two hours later' kind of drug.
When I first went on it, I think the paperwork said it would take '4 to 6 weeks' for the full effects to be felt.
And as I assume is probably the case with you, it's usually prescribed starting with a small dose and then slowly stepping it up.
Do you know what your target dose is?
I (slowly) worked my way up to 200 mg.
I'm sorry you're all wound up.
Whether you're 'I' or whether you're 'II', I hope you feel lots better soon!!!
(((((Hugs)))))
I have sat in my docs office and asked him that question so many times.
Finally i started an acceptance journal. I decided if this journal over 6 months proved it then I would accept it. ...I tracked moods and behaviors while I managed and medicated with intense exercise, diet control, no stress, sleep monitoring and aids when needed, meditation, daily lexipro and then serequel when needed if in a mixed state, I want to hurt myself (not proud of that....but it used to be the only way to stop the agitation...now I use the pill) or totally hyper. So I did everything 10000000% obsessively and then tracked it to see if I still struggled. I did.
U can see if u do and have it in writing. Maybe that will help u accept.
I think I knew when I read back over how I got on a plane and had such an intense sensual thing going on inside that I I just turned and made-out with this guy I just met in the seat next to me for the entire flight!!!???!?!?!
.....this was completely "out of character" for me....seeing how the mood followed the next week was even more shocking. U probably have already journaled but I just had to say...it helped me.
Then of course talking to ur doc. Mine always says to me YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! And then I say....holy crap I just can't believe it still....r u sure! Lol. Then we argue about me going on a mood stabilizer until my next appointment.
Either way....what ever they want to call it....the main thing is how u treat it and what helps u feel better. u r not alone ..:) hugs....
