I was just diagnosed with bipolar manic to be exact I dont see anything wrong with being manic I am not involved in risky behavior I dont have psychosis. So whats wrong with being manic ??

well I only know hypomanic but I say not a damn thing!

I dont think anything, but there is for some ppl who do get involved with risky behavior. I, too- only know Hypo-mania

well from my experience things were great then escalated to dangerous and risky behavior like drugs, drinking excessively, promiscuity, shoplifting, and I was flying so high that when I came out of it everyone was telling me things I done and I honestly do not remember some of the things. I felt like I had been drugged and those things I was doing was not who I was so my family forgave me but the mania is great until it excalates to those things. I was even driving crazy and not only crazy under the influence alot of the time. I was refusing to take meds and had just been diagnosed and was pissed off that I was BiPolar. SO hey yeah it is fun until it turns dangerous and reckless.

I want to give a picture of what can happen if mania goes out of control. Mania can turn into psychosis. That is hell. For me, the first time, I couldn't sleep AT ALL no matter what I took for about 2 weeks. I began to hear messages just for me on the radio, I saw them on billboards and on magazines. I thought my 10 month old baby was speaking to me in full sentences and that my 4 year old boy was my spirit guide. In the end, I thought I was a prophet and then, God. I masturbated in full daylight in a park in front of children. In the hospital, I met angels. My husband left me a year later because he couldn't handle what had happened to me.

The second time it happened, the sleeplessness was only a few days and I believed I was a great shaman. My kids (now 8 and 10) were saying "mom is crazy!" because I was sitting cross-legged in the dirt in the back yard on a hot summer day dressed in a flannel shirt, sun hat and jeans, holding a stone in each hand. I was trying to "ground" myself.

Psychosis is not fun. Recovering from it takes months. Each time it happens, it makes it easier for your brain to go there again. That's called kindling.

Please take it very seriously. This illness can destroy your life if untreated. I hope I haven't been too harsh. I wish you all the best.
