I'm on Latuda 40mg and have been so for about a year now. I like it it has less side effects and lamotrigine. I still get these low-grade hypomania spells that last well over a week but I haven't been in full mania for a year now.

I like the drug. It works well.

Hi Danny. I'm sorry I've never been on Latuda… At least not yet! I have been on a variety of antidepressants, some worked, some didn't. I have been on olanzapine; that didn't help. I tried lithium but stopped after getting shaky hands (but I'm thinking of trying it again because I could have tried lowering the dose or taking medication to counteract that because it was much better than the side effects I'm getting now from lamotrigine). I'm getting intolerable side effects from lamotrigine so I think I'm going to have to go off of it. Reducing the dose did not help much. My psychiatrist isn't getting back to me, so I going to have to get my family Dr. to help me with this. I have an appointment with my family Dr. on the phone this Wednesday and a phone appointment November 17 with my psychiatrist. Hopefully, by then I'll be off the lamotrigine, and ready to try something else. Every person gets different side effects from different meds. Everybody gets different results from these meds. They keep telling me it's trial and error, but it is hard. It's hard for all of us. The side effects can be awful and it's so tempting to just stop and go off of all of it… But everything that happened before will come back. I don't believe therapy alone or anything else alone can treat bipolar 1 or 2.
I also have bipolar 2 disorder. I am also very sensitive to medications. That makes things a bit more difficult, for both of us, unfortunately. Best wishes XO

Just an FYI...
Latuda is not an Anti-Depressant it's an Anti-Psychotic as is Olanzapine, Lamictal is an Anti-Seizure med. These are all types of Mood Stabilizers.

BiPolars's may have a mild Anti-Depressant in their med cocktail if they can tolerate them, many can't, but it's never the main Medication of their Cocktail.

@dannie, if you've only been on the increased dose of Latuda for 2 weeks you might need to give it a little more time for your brain chemistry to adjust and the side effects to level off. If it works on your symptoms, its worth it to give it a little more time, it can just take a few weeks of regulating the dosage.

I'm sorry Kat (OlderCPer). My post was not clear. I should have written that I have tried several different antidepressants…… And I have tried a few mood stabilizers… And then started talking about olanzapine, lithium, and lamotrigine. I do know the difference between the 2, but I miscommunicated and that's not a good thing. I read through quickly for any big typos, but not the clarity of my message.

I tried it for a few weeks and I literally couldn't think on it.....I was unable to absorb anything that I was reading and I read daily.... So it didn't suit me but I've also heard some do well on it.... xo

Hi dannie, I’m sorry to hear your having trouble trying to find a med that works best for you. I’m also sensitive to meds. I’m on lamotrigine 100mg twice a day. Taking it all at once doesn’t work for me, have been for over 10years, with no adverse side effects. My husband having cancer last year, among other things, made my depression seriously worse. Latuda was mentioned, but I didn’t like the sound of the side effects. So I asked if I could add in Trileptal. (150mg twice a day) This is what I was first given. And then the lamictal after. I like ones with the least side effects as possible. I’ve started this a month ago and I’m not as depressed, and I’m better at handling it when I am. I wish you all the best.
