I am new to this group. I recently had a psych evaluation and I have been diagnosed with bipolar. I wasn't really surprised once I learned more about it. I am glad that now I may be able to have a normal life because now I know what the problem is. I have been on the down side lately. My stress is sky high from a recent breakup and nonsense happening at work. How long does it take for my medication to start working? I am on trazodone for sleep and lamictal. Is bipolar easy to manage? I am new to all this and when I talked it out to the doctor, I realized how unstable I have been.

Due to my increased paranoia, anxiety, and a panic attack over the weekend, my psychiatrist has put me back in a full dose of Zyprexa until further notice. Every time I think I'm getting ahead something happens and it's back to square one. I knew he was gonna do this but I can't help feeling disappointed. It is what it is.

Well, good morning to you!Today is National Roller Coaster Day. Are any of you going? It's also National Tell-A-Joke Day! Come up with some and share!I'm not bright with jokes these days, but I'll start:"Today I ordered a chicken and an egg from Amazon...I'll let you know." :D

I have been on Lamictal almost 8 years. I love it as it works very well for me for the reasons they have me on it - as mood stabilizer and to help with neuropathy. It doesnt work for everyone tho hopefully it does for you. Lamictal is the only med tho of mine that hasnt had to be tweaked or discontinued in the last 8 years as yep stuff just stops working with us alot of the time.
It isnt a death sentence but it isnt a walk in the park you want to take blindly either. Give it time tho hard to do and hang out here we are a good bunch 95% of the time
Reading up on bipolar is a very good way to get to know Yourself; like Wiederk says, each person is individual but there are many commonalities we all share.
I hope you find DS encouraging and supportive, and find out Lots that you want to know.
Regular tdoc and pdoc visits are important. Everyone has a unique "road" with this dx. Knowing you are not alone helps and a willingness to be open to suggestion and change.
Post away here, journal, read others journals....read everything you can get your hands on. Engage others (this post is a good start) and make new friends. Much strength to you as you start this journey.
Routine is what gets me through things. If I have a routine, then my coping skills work better. Look at different coping skills too. There are many modalities and programs to look into. There is CBT, DBT, WRAP, and any number of others. Google is my friend.
Lamictal is an excellent drug. I have taken it every day for the last four years and it really works. Like a Wieder, its the only thing that hasn't been changed or discontinued. I take that and Lithium as my mood stabilizers. For me, its the perfect combo. Your doctor may try you out an several different medications thru your course with BP. Just be patient and realize that its all trial and error. The good thing about Lamictal is it is weight neutral, unlike a lot of meds out there. Good Luck and Welcome! ((HUGS))
I hope and think that you will like it here!!!
All the meds are different and how long they take to kick in depends on the person, too. I hope yours work quickly and correctly!!!
Bipolar Disorder is pretty easy for some people to manage and very hard to manage for others. I hope that you will fall into the former category!!!
Glad you're here, charmingdisaster!!!! I like your name!!! I'm sorry to see your red face!!! Good luck!!! (((((Hugs)))))
i have been taking lamictal for 6 years and i don't remember how long it took to work but it has been a really good med for me (along with my other meds) i hope it works well for you too and don't get too discouraged if it doesn't ..there are many other different meds out there. good luck to you xx
My status face is at horrible because work has been tearing me to pieces lately. I will do more research on some of the things mentioned. I will try to journal but sometimes I find it hard. I love having a routine. However, if it changes, I go off. I will probably be posting a lot since I'm so new to this. Thanks!
