Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Hi,
I am Distracted Giraffe Lady, and I'm new here. I need some extra support in my life but wanted the privacy of a silly screen name. It has been almost 5 years since I was officially diagnosed with bipolar type 1. (Though I had a major depressive disorder diagnosis for about 8 years before that).
I'm currently in the middle of a mixed episode, which are always my least favorite. Mostly a depression with hypomanic features that seem to come and go a bit, like the racing thoughts and decreased need for sleep.
I'm not on any medication and I haven't been in a couple years, though I am on a medication for migraine prevention and magnesium and B2. Just beginning to get better after a few months of nearly chronic migraine attacks.
Hoping to make some friends here.
Thanks for reading,
Giraffe Lady

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

The right meds really ended this mostly for me.... I have had a couple of fairly minor mixed states since however I think that they were more triggered by life events/grief
I’m sensitive hobo lady. Are we related? Cousins?
Welcome. I would find a good psychiatrist and start a conversation. If you get put in a hospital, the medication route is almost mandatory and it’s a lot to get used to. But outside of the hospital, med regimes can help once you get a good partnership with the right doc. Therapy helps too.
All the best.
