today i went to my psychiatrist and i told her about the bad night i had with feeling suicidal and wanting to od and jump out the window..then i told her about the voices i hear and i described them for her and then she said that because its taking so long to be used to abilify and i could only take a low dose, she changed my med to respidol and diagnosed me with schizoaffective disorder.

that scares me. that means i truly have a mental illness..she explained to me the reason for that diagnosis is because of my depression and mania and the voices..thats wat its called

Happy that you were able to see your pdoc..i know lately that you have been struggling from various posts from you. Its is a relief to get a true diagnosis and puts me at ease knowing what's going on with me personally. Keep trudging through....it all evens out with staying current with your pdoc and med adjustments. Also what has worked for me is mood charting. There are various ones on the internet :) again glad for you~hugs and peace/serenity to you :)

Hmmmm.....

I don't mean to disrespect your Pdoc...but it takes more than just hearing voices and suicidal thinking to get Dx as schizoaffective.

Plain old BP I ...during manic /psychotic episodes , hearing voices and halusinations are common.

Risperidol should help with your feelings.

Google the Mayo Clinic site on mental illness ...read up on mental illness and see if you fit into the pattern of schizoaffective ?

We must be proactive about our illness.

yea she also mentioned bipolar with psychotic features but she said since i hear the worse all day everyday...iand bipolar with psychotic features is wen ur really manic or depressed u hear them so she said i fit more in schizoaccetive disorder.

and thank you so muchh cages..yea im so glad i finally know what exactly is goin gon with me. since i was 13 i always wondered wat the hell was wrong with me and then wen i was 15 on the dx started like the ptsd, depression,bipolar, and now schizoaffective disorder..now i know. :) yea i use to chart my mood on the calender...i think illl start again

I think it's almost always a little bit unsettling to have a new label applied to us. Try not to be upset. You're the same person you were yesterday. The change is in the treatment and you should hopefully be feeling better soon!!! I hope so, anyway!!! Good luck!! (((((Hugs)))))
