It seems that there is a 1 in 250,000-300,000 chance of having liver damage that can result in a liver transplant or death. My psychiatrist gave me a script for 50 mg a day. Effective doseage is 300mg-600mg per day. It seems that there is not a predictor of who will have problems. Anyway I'm a bit desperate. Nothing has worked thus far. Anyone out there on it. No info in the discussions really. What is your opinion?

I just Googled it.

Seems the US and Canada banned sales because of the liver problems.

There are many anti-depressants on the market, I think I would ask for something that has less of a deadly history....

Try Buspar, it's a mild antianxiety and antidepressant , it has few side effects

I don't think I'd be too happy taking that particular drug.

On the other hand, I'm on Lamictal and the risk of getting that 'deadly rash' is 2 to 4 in every 10,000. But that's how many people will get it. Not how many die from it.

If you turn out to be one of the ones who gets liver damage from Nafazodone, will early signs show up before a dangerous amount of damage has been done?

I don't think I'd mind it too much then, as long as I was getting blood tests every 3 months or so. At the first indication of my liver enzymes being out of whack, I'd want off of it!!

I know you say that nothing has worked so far, but does that mean that there's nothing left for you to take besides Nefazodone? Maybe you could list all the ones you've been on and people here can tell you if they no of any that aren't on your list.

Then you could read up on them and see if any of them sound better-suited for you!!!

Good luck!!! That's a very nasty side effect. I don't think I'd like having it in the back of my mind all that time that my liver might be failing!!!! (((((Hugs)))))

I think if it is banned, you should try something else, even if the country you are in allows it. But if you do decide to try it, please get your liver enzymes tested monthly. They are a good indicator of whether things are going wrong.

I took a cancer drug, methotrexate for 10 years for Rheumatoid Arthritis. Some people take it for many years (20) and have no issues. It raised my liver enzymes from the first day I was on it. But it worked, so I stayed on it till my liver specialist said "NO MORE". Keep in contact with a liver specialist too, if you decide to take it.
