I need a little support here
Here's the situation. My son was enrolled into a private boarding school that is only open for low income families in need. Now the school doesn't deal with children with behavior problems.
That being said my son has been in this school since 2008 with no problems until this year.
Now I also have a daughter who went to this school until the beginning of this school year. I pulled her out because of her behavior and problems she was having. I pulled her out knowing she would want to go back and that's basically why I pulled her out so that if she went back she would be grateful to be there instead of acting like a mess.
My son's a little different though. He didn't have years of acting like a fool. He was a really good kid and he liked school. Now there are several situations that happened to him leading up to this. It's not just that he saw his sister come home so he decided to take a page from her book, no.
Here's what happened. He had a crush on this girl. They were friends. And when they wanted to see each other they would do something to get thrown into the heath Center (a building set a side for illness be it mental or not.) so they could sneak out and see each other. Now they did get caught. Well a falling out happened between them and no one really knows what that was but they were no longer friends.
But my son still had a crush on her. So one day at lunch he sat at her table, I guess he had something to say but didn't know how to say it so he sat there in silence instead. Well naturally this creeped her out so she said he was stalking her. Instead of going to an adult though she went and told all the other kids in her class and they started harassing my son to stop stalking her and what not. So he's embarrassed about that.
But to top everything off he was on the soccer team at the time and the kids were harassing him there too, telling him he was the worse goaly ever and blaming him that they lost the game. Well some of those same kids were in his student home so he wasn't escaping the bulling at night either. I guess things escalated to the point where my son broke a window and tried to cut himself. He says he doesn't remember doing it.
Now he's in philhaven the closest mental facility. The school was on the fence about taking him back because of the whole window thing and him threatening suicide if he went back. He also said he would just get kicked out if he went back and he really wants to come home.
After talking to the school we decided that it was better to take him out rather than risk him getting kicked out because if he gets kicked out he can't come back later if he would change his mind. Where as if I pull him out he could re apply and come back later (well Maybe) but it's still an option.
So I decided to pull him out. Well my uncle who has stuck his nose into my families business for far to long flipped out on me like it wasn't my decision and like it's the worse thing in the world. To him this school was the end all of hope for my kids' future. So now according to him they can't have a decent future because of this.
It's pissing me off to no end now. I didn't make a bad choice I know I did the best thing for the situation being what it is.
Also my family is not very understanding of mental illness. My son also sees thing and hears voices that tell him to hurt himself. He needs intensive therapy that the school also could not provide.
I just feel upset now and could use hugs and support for my decision.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

May a good solution find it's way to your family.
Hugs.
Yeesh that does sound like a tough situation! I definitely 100% think you did the right thing. If you know in your heart, which you seem to, that you did what was best for your son, then who cares what your Uncle thinks? I know it's hard when you are being criticized by a fam member, but like you said it is much better that he is taken out rather than kicked out. The consequences will be easier to endure. Take heart that you did the right thing. Anyway, God forbid your son was serious about his suicide threat if he had to go back to school! I think it will be a nice change for him to get away from that girl and all of those bullies and start fresh. I had some turbulent years when I was a teenager, too, and I wish my mother had taken me out of that school. You are definitely doing the right thing! ::hugs::
It sounds to me like your son was dealing with a lot and if he lived there as well there would have been no escape for him from the bullying... I think that would be a really dangerous place to be mentally and I think for sure you did the right thing... He needs some help and I hope he gets the help he needs now....xo
I'm glad some one is on my side! I really need it.
Give yourself a pat on the back and to hell with your uncle!
Big hug for you and your son and daughter.
I'm sure it has been sooo hard when family members, or anyone you might otherwise look to for strength and encouragement, take issue with your decisions, but Every Day, is your Very best. And it sounds like your son could Not have been stable or safe, at that time in his school.
What will happen now? Are you going to homeschool or get your children in a program that is closer by, or anything like that? Lots of Huggggs to you, doorknob.
