I really need advice on how to deal with my 14 year old son. Two weeks ago he ran away for 3 days. When he came back home he told me that he was sleeping under a tree...he had bug bites all over him. While he was gone I got his cousin to open up his facebook, and it was horrifying - to say the least. He was idolizing "GG Allin" - one of the craziest singers in the 80's. He was also talking about suicide and hurting people. Therefore, I admitted him into a mental facility. They released him after a week, but the following day, he said he wanted to kill himself, so I admitted him again. They want to put him on so many different psych meds. I am so confused. He's my only child and I love him so much. I feel that he may struggle from bi-polar disorder, since it runs in our family, so I've done some research and I feel that Seroquel XR might work best for him. Any advice on meds for adolescents?

What I do want to share with you, is being a rebelous 14 year old - its selfish and uncaring, and each time you send him in, he learns more tricks and manipulations - you said he mentioned suicide after his inpatient? I learned how kiss, and smoke pot at 13 - there were a few sick kids, but most were trouble makers and being a teenager - the whole hospital thing was a joke - my parents paid thousands over insurance - it was just a joke, that is a tough year! You know everything, and hanging out with the wrong people is powerful and satisfying - this can lead to drugs, trouble, jail - and lots of abuse on the family....
I was a horrible teenager - but from 17 - 30, I was super successful, diagnosed at 28... - now I'm ok, on meds - but self supporting - yadda yadda - but at 14 - I would have ruined your day, night, week - year... ((((BIG HUG)))))
I don't necessary belive in drugging kids, who are not going to take them, plus the label.... YOU NEED SUPPORT, go To NAMI.org that have adolescent info and family info..... Get help - you have to talk care of the family - the sick will bring the well down every time...
