Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Can you call your doc or your therapist either one today to talk or go see? If so please do. Even if writing down and they all go together and are jumbled it is still good so that you can show them.
Hugs.
I so know what you're talking about with the swishy mind. The more it annoys me, the most I try to strong-arm it into control and the worse it gets. Like you, I tried to journal but it was so all over the place that it made me frustrated. I realized that I had to get my whole self involved in a calming process so I took up yoga.
Oh man .... I totally sucked at first. (This was pre-meds.) Every little thing that could be a distraction was -- my classmates, my teacher, the temperature in the room, the soothing music playing -- usually spa covers of a song I knew I knew. I stuck with it though and learned to center myself and concentrate on my breathing. I learned to block out all the chaos and get my thoughts in order. It was kinda like hitting reset on the computer. After meds, my yoga practice really took off -- I am so tuned in that I usually have my eyes closed 80% of the time and I don't have a clue what else is going on.
I found that regularly practicing yoga helped not only with strength and flexibility but it really put my thoughts in check. It's 30 miles each way to yoga class so I use lots of DVDs out here on the farm. You might give it a try for long-term relief from those racing thoughts.
I get the wacky dreams too. Before meds I never dreamed .... heck, I never slept. They really don't bother me -- just something to tell Mr. Baby over the breakfast table.
I hope you find a solution soon!
But I want to point out, here and the depression group - its wonderful to know we are not alone, and others suffer the same shit (which I have been where your at, many times and TOO long) But the groups helped me find out ways to stop it, change it, try something different, not stay stuck, wishing for understanding....
.. to me, the tools I learn from the people that have the same issues - priceless!!!! I find I have those "times" shorter and fewer, as I struggle to create a life - so its a bipolar life, its still mine to live!
