Looking at my taxes last year I paid over $1000 dollars in meds and more in psychiatric visits because my insurance won't cover mental health I meet the deductible. For the first time I had to actually paid the IRS at tax time for pulling money from IRA to buy first house. It is another stressor that I don't need this year. With what I paid in med and doctors this I could pay this bill and have more for my wedding. But the insurance says that mental health is not a specialty and so a dermatoligist is something they will pay for but not a lethal condition.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.
This is not to mention the ridiculousness of "mental health isn't covered"> in other words "Sorry, we know that's one of the most serious forms of illness that has been proven over and over to NEED therapy and medication, but health insurance doesn't cover that" Good, so do I get to have my episodes next to you then? Insanity.

Most of Europe, Canada & Australia have social health care. Different model, I pay about $150 a year for as many meds as I need/want. Psychiatric care is "free". We pay for it in taxes of course and the model is not without it's problems.
In the US we really don't have a mental health system it's a piece meal affair. We should be able to see a psychiatrist, a therapist, get medications or have access to a hospital without going broke but it is what it is. Capitalism and healthcare are not a good fit....Try not to suffer in silence!
