It has always bugged the begeezers out of me that I was treated as though I had a behavior problem and that was what bipolar was about. They even call the social/work center in the town I grew up in "behavioral health" .. As though we're all ridiculous selfish morons who are hell bent on causing trouble.
With all the changes that occur in our brains because of this illness it's no wonder we bahave differently than those who do not have this disease.
Maybe the fact that I'm grrrrrrrrrrrrr angry right now about how those uninitiated treat us means I need to be locked away.

But ther REALLY cutting thing is that everyone DOES know about my illnesses now, that I am 100% meds compliant, do all my therapy work and more, am an 11 years sober member of AA, but I still get the stigma, rejection and relegation to the edges of society - when I haven't hurt the vast majority of my family and for those I have hurt I have made ameds through AA's 12 steps and have continued to do "living amends" since. Of cousre part of the problem is that many of these people are still living in unaddressed addiction and mental illness, so me being "out" about being Bipolar and other mental illnesses mean I am an easy target.
