Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I had to have my anti-anxiety pill switched today, I went from buspirone to clonazepam. I took my first pill of that and it worked fairly well with a very interesting set of side effects (sleepy, dizzy, loss of coordination) which the thing says are normal side effects. Later after it wore off I went to karaoke with some friends and I was having fun there. 4 people went up and sang Black Eyed Peas - I Gatta Feeling. I was having fun before, but with this song (which I love) I started having a LOT of fun, then after that I continued having a lot of fun!! I was feeling really good and happy and was dancing around and singing along and just having a blast!
I was wondering in the middle.. my thought process went something like this...."is this a hypomanic episode? I hope not, I don't want a crash later... or maybe I wont crash! Anyway it doesn't matter I am having fun now, thats all I care about..."
Then later, the LAST SONG OF THE NIGHT, the person singing chose the song The Kinks - Lola. Partway through the second verse I realized what the song was about and I instantly crashed. I was practically in shock, I went from dancing and singing along to sitting there dumbfounded staring at the lyrics all the way until the song ended.
I continued the rest of the night and on the ride back feeling very depressed. :(
The whole thing didn't last very long... I mean, the hypomanic part could only have lasted like an hour or two at most... and I think I'm still in the depressed part right now, around an hour or so after that happened.
What was this? I keep wondering if it was this small and short maybe it was just in my head, something I made up? Or do episodes happen this small? I have no idea... I asked my boyfriend if he has seen me do stuff like this before, where I am really happy for a little bit and then I crash soon after, and he said that hes seen me do that several times at least.

Could you be rapid cycling??
JennSerene
Ok, I get it, this is clearly rapid cycling. I will need to talk with my pdoc about this then.

is it rapid cycling or a mixed episode? Maybe I don't understand the difference.

I'd have a hard time calling what happened any kind of episode. It appears that certain songs/music can put you in a good mood and another song can put you in a bad mood. That would be a good thing to discuss in therapy, I doubt that there's a med that will touch it.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.
