Invega, an anti-psychotic had this effect on me. I KNOW my I.Q. dropped 50 points within a few weeks on them and that's assuming I had 50 points to play with.

Had problems with organization of thoughts, memory, emotional regulation, anxiety, word recall, putting thoughts onto paper, etc...I was a mess on Invega.

Ive noticed a decline in my cognitive abilities big time, simple crap puzzles my ass. It sucks.

i've noticed my speech becoming more difficult. i stutter a bit and have difficulty remembering words or forming sentences. i used to be quick on my feet and witty, i hosted a radio show, i was fast and funny. now i struggle. but it's ok. i'm ok with it.

That's something to keep working with your doc on. I was very slow when taking haldol and thorazine. Fortunately, there are many different types of anti-psychotics. Find what works best for you.

Certain meds, certain moods I can't concentrate at all.

I agree. I find linear stuff like having to memorise things take a lot longer.It pisses me off in a slightly scary way cos people can say whatever then.
I see a parallel with older people and amnesia.Or the even scarier stuff.

I try not to dwell on it because the things you are good at you don't really notice so much till others comment on it.

I've learnt some things by just repeating and repeating way more than I know I would have otherwise.
It certainly feels like my brain has been carved out.

It's had a big effect on me this way as well.. I've been on them for so long now.. I have no doubt that the benzo's have caused a lot of memory loss

Since I have noticed the decline in all my learning abilities, slow thoughts, slow thinking etc.. I have got on True Hope empower plus drinks. They are targeted for people with mental problems. I have noticed that I want to get on here more and read more so I have to say I think it helps. I don't work for the company or trying to promote it but I think it really does help. When I run out of this kind I have now I am going to get it and mix it with bananas and make a smoothie every morning.. Yummm... hehe

It depends on the person and the meds. Each person has different reactions to psych meds. I know a lot of people refer to Topomax as "Dopomax" because it causes memory/thinking issues...I've been on it for almost 7 years and not had any memory/thinking trouble with it. So it might be the meds your on, you may need to change to something else. Talk to your Pdoc.

Kat I have changed so many times. I am on some new drug now called latuda I have read somewhere it don't suppose to cause many cognitive decline. I am just going to stick it out and try to exersise my brain by reading more and getting on here more often. If it seems to get worse then I will have to tell my doc again and get off it.

Depends on the meds and person and how long you have been taking them. Talk to your PDoc. Hopefully it is temporary and not old age setting in, hehe. Also, depends on any other things you may be taking, those other things can be bad bad bad. DXM abusers are a good example.

I know thorazine, haldol and ativan can do that to some people. Did to me, but then that was a one time lets inject him as if he is an elephant cause he just freaked out the whole hospital staff.

Agreed. Never used to have a problem with spelling. Some words I never had a problem with I have to stop and think and sometimes try a combination until I finally get it right.
Can't remember crap either.
I blame it on the med's as surely it couldn't just be me. lol

It is a med head kinda thing...but as we grow older it's more of a dead head kinda thing, imo
