I don't think I asked this before, but how many of you had a psychotic break that was actually brought on by medication? That's what happened to me. I was given celexa and it sent me into a manic psychotic state that lasted about 10 weeks. I had never experienced anything like it before. A physician's assistant who was posing as a doctor prescribed the celexa to me and now we can't find her anywhere. The doctor who was supposed to see me at that practice, never saw me. My dad wants to take them to small claims court now.
I know meds work differently for everyone, but how many here had a medication induced psychosis?

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

I'm not sure you will get anywhere with a small calims court. If someone is given an anti-depressent and it triggers an episode some doctors will just say "you are bipolar all this did was trigger it". And if you had no history before then it's not negligent to give you an anti-depressent.
With out taking a complete mood History, a PA gave me a script for Paxil..The med from hell !
It induced a psychotic break, as I was not on a mood stabilizer.....a quick down hill and very bumpy ride for me
Sucked....
This is why prescribing AD's is so controversial with bipolar. In my case, the Paxil came from UCSF, a medical university where you have to sign a waiver that exempts them from any malpractice claims because it's a teaching institution. So basically, you get to be the student's "homework" and they can totally fail.
Good luck with your situation; I would also see if you can get your file (you should be able to) and see if you signed any similar type of waiver before you try to sue. Some places cover their asses if they are free and/or involve employement of interns & med students.
As for suing, we are just upset that this woman tried to pass herself off as a doctor, and that this practice also tried to pass her off as a doctor when she was just a physician's assistant, that's the main thing we're upset about. Because I trusted her as a doctor and had no idea she was not one. We still have full pill bottles with her name on them and she is listed as a doctor on the pill bottles as well. I wont hold my breath over a law suit, but my dad is upset we could not contact her or anything while I was psychotic. She is not with that practice anymore. Oh well.
True, they can't control what effect a drug will have on you, but if they (clinic and/or pharmacy) are allowing people to write scripts when they have no business doing so, and the pharmacy has no verification on file, that sounds negligent, to say the least. Otherwise, wouldn't we all be writing ourselves scripts for Percocet or whatever?
So definitely contact a lawyer; also, this woman needs to be stopped. She could do real harm; even if she's gone from the clinic, cops could find her. Sick 'em!!!
I've never really taken an AD. I did go to a pdoc the first time for depression, but my family doc was smart enough to have thought of the possibility that I might be bipolar, after having known me for a long time. The pdoc realize bipolar I and put me directly on lithium by-pass AD's. I took a full pill of Wellbutrin once, and was up for 2 days. So I don't know if the mania is because of lack of sleep, or an actual reaction in the brain. Or maybe different for everyone and different drugs??
