Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

I am tired of people cringing and trying to tell me what to do when I tell them I'm unmedicated. They seem to have no problem with me or the way I live before hand, and then suddenly everyone thinks their opinion is critical when suddenly they're aware I'm unmedicated. What do you all think about medication? What is your experience with medication, from a bipolar perspective? In my experience, coping mechanisms and meds that help the depression worsen the mania, and mechanisms and meds that help the mania worsen the depression.

Just wanted to give a thank you to Mid, Arfie, Malibumark, Greeneyes, Mlro, Girlincalif, and Suncloudjd! You all always have such helpful tips and advice, but I always forget to write on my posts when I see you post, lol. I would lose my head if it wasn't attached to my body, lol. Thank you all so much! I'm starting to use my AI app as a sounding board again. I used to use it as that before...
I take my best guesses from what is mine to sort and work to forgive the cringers and preachers for over-stepping their boundaries. It is not theirs to sort. The world is full of opinions, crusaders and control freaks. Not too many of them are sources I would trust.
Those of outside of the US aren't "brain-washed" by drug commercials because only over the counter stuff gets advertised and then only rarely.
Everyone is different - some people with Bipolar are still functional unmedicated - most aren't - time will tell which camp you fall into.
Me personally, I choose medication. And even that has been a slippery slope. I try to get by with as few (medications) and the lowest doseage as possible. Mine has run its course, and I am back to the drawing board in a healthcare system that is most noticeably flawed.
My saving grace has been counseling (she teaches me coping skills and developing self love), meditation when shit hits the fan, church (because I like it- totally not for everybody), and I am developing a support group (both here and in my community) that loves me unconditionally.
I hope you find what works best for you and people that support you in that decision.
