Med failure after years of working.

My trazodone is all of the sudden not working after 10 years of helping me sleep. I keep hoping it will start again but that's just not the case. My p doc tried an increase but that didn't work. As I posted in a different thread my neurologist wants me to start Elavil for migraines. I spoke to my p doc today and he said we should just try to replace the trazodone with the Elavil as it should help me sleep.

I'm wondering if anyone has gone through something similar. I hate that I can rely on the trazodone anymore.

I'm grateful I have two meds to help me sleep that continue to work.

I've had many mood stabilizers and antidepressants that had to go by the way side because they stopped working.

Trazodone pooped out on me too, but after only a week or so! I hope you get something else to help you sleep soon.

I think trazodone poops out on everyone after years of use. At least, I have heard that from various family members (we all have bp and have all used trazodone on and off). It's still working for me for now, although I have to split up my dose and take half at bedtime and half around 2 or 3 when I invariably wake up. Insomnia is awful, good luck and many positive vibes for the elavil!

Yep, Trazadone pooped out on me and pdoc kept raising the dose but after awhile it just didn't matter how high the dosage I just simply quit working. Had a couple of good years on it though for sleep.

I recently tried trazadone again (it was the first med I was ever put on in the 90s) and it didn't do a darn thing. I was wide, wide awake all night.
