I used to use weed daily, it helped with my mania although I didn't know I was bipolar at the time. Since being diagnosed I've started taking Geodon and have found weed has a very different effect on me. It doesn't make me laid back anymore, in fact it keeps me awake, makes it harder to sleep. I guess I'm just now learning all drugs interact with other drugs, even herbal ones. I've even started drinking Sleeptime Tea at bedtime and the stuff really has an effect. Better than weed. Amazing. Has anyone found their weed or alcohol consumption seriously changed when they got on meds? Seems like a silly question, but all I want - ever wanted - is to just Feel Better....
My 19 year old son suffers with BP and primary depression. He told me he smokes pot almost daily because it relaxes him and helps him sleep. What I have begun to realize that I could not see of myself at his age, was that self medicating himself like this is more harmful in the longrun as it exacerbates his symptoms. He is eventually more agitated, more depressed, has more trouble sleeping and his blood pressure is high.
He sees a pdoc again at the end of the month for review and psych meds. I honestly believe he will find more stability with those and using his coping skills.
I think as painful as this disorder can be, we tend to look for "instant" relief. In doing so,, we sometimes sacrifice long term stability. Congrats on obtaining stability.......xo
