Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
Talking with people creates a connection and that's good. But you shouldn't blame yourself for not having friends since it's all dependent on your definitions and viewpoint so far.
It's important for me to be my own best friend. Several yrs a ago I was hanging around with "the wrong crowd" just to have friends. More recently I had to end a 25 yr friendship because it had become a very bad dysfunctional codependent mess. I guess what I'm saying is that you are better off starting with a clean slate!
You have really struggled and you have no idea why? Because it's hard to make friends!! It's not you, that's just the way it is. Keep looking -- I know it's frustrating because of situations -where/if you work or go to school etc. And it's scary to go beyond the 1st step of talking. You have to take it so slow --that's what's hard for me. I come on too strong with gifts & things and weird people out.
If you work toward it as a goal, it will probably happen.
I never have a problem just blah-blahing at the grocery store with strangers but making a real connection is difficult for me. I have recently cut some toxic people completely out of my life and that feels great despite not having anyone to go get coffee with in the area.
Also sometimes I just don't like people. :O
As long as we are reaching out in some way is all that is important. We don't need to judge ourselves for having few friends or judge what kind of friends they are...online or in person. Sharing with others however you can is great.
I also made friends with the very aggressive neighbor dog. After I started playing with him he warmed up to me, although if given a chance he probably would still bite me but maybe not kill.
There is a blaze the deer that lives around here. I see him on my runs sometimes.
I live a full life of imagination I guess. lol. I have one friend and we're going to run a 5k together in a week. I haven't actually talked to her in about a year though, she msg'd me and asked me if I wanted to run and I said sure.
I will say that usually when I make friends it just comes out of striking up a conversation with people I run into a lot. and it happens when I'm not trying too hard.
and older people are always there for you. I joined a bookclub with older people and they've been supportive. I needed to lick my wounds and hone my social skills in a nonthreatening place.
don't give up!
I know they say the world is not an island, but I get by.
