Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

Hey everybody! I start a new job tomorrow, and I am certainly feeling it. At least, that's the only reason I can think of for feeling extremely anxious.
I haven't worked (except for summer camp) since shortly after my last hospitalization in March, which is when I received my diagnosis of bipolar. I know that doesn't sound so long, but to me, it feels like forever ago. I typically do well in jobs, so it's not necessarily performance based anxiety, however I do hope that, unlike the last job, this one meets my self-care needs.
I will be a Beauty Team Member at a Target store, which from the job description, sounds like a good fit for me. I love make-up and hair stuff, and it sounds like it's busy but evenly paced for the most part, helping out customers find what they are looking for, encouraging them to try new products, stocking shelves, among other responsibilities. It heavily involves working with people which I enjoy doing.
Another factor in my anxiety is having to depend on a bus schedule for the first time to get to this job. I don't know if there is anything else causing me anxiety, but I can tell you that up until now, I've been doing ok at managing my anxiety, redirecting it into positive energy to get things done, but it has become harder to do that today. I hope I don't go into a mixed state episode... kinda feels like the beginnings of one.
I have some self-soothing techniques, but would love some encouragement and tips. Thanks in advance for reading and for your tips.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

But it still needs managing. *Just breathe* is one of my tools for managing my anxiety in these cases. When my abnormal anxiety threatens to blow everything out of proportion, I remind myself to *Just breath." K.I.S.S K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple, Sweetie.
Steadying support and sincere encouragement on the new job, Jess. Hope it takes you wonderful places.
Congrats on the job and take care.
I agree that you'll soon be part of the team and the anxiety will calm..... Big hug and a blessing for tomorrow....
Let us know how it goes.....xo
Huge good luck vibes on the new job!! Its a big step in the right direction and a major accomplishment!!
If you’re worried about commuting I have always left earlier than what schedules say and have time to relax before my shift. It’s been better for me than that feeling of having to “rush.”
I hope this starts an interesting new endeavor for you! Deep breaths when you need it, and anxiety meds help if it gets to be higher anxiety daily. Getting a good nights sleep always helps me too. If it’s been a more stressful day I make sure to get a good nights rest that night and the next day feels like a much lighter load.
