Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.
My son has titrated down on lamictal and has been off for about two weeks - he was still feeling depressed/suicidal on the lamictal and also had some side effects from the drug like memory loss, unable to think clearly, muscle pain, anxiety. Well now he still has those syptoms and I am wondering if he is still going through withdrawl or if its just the bipolar depression causing everything. He has tried just about every antidepressant and they all made his eyes blue and dialate. For at least ten years after he was disagnosed he tool zoloft and lithium and did very well. then it just stopped working. Now nothing helps and I am so worried about him. Don't know if we try to find another psychiatrist or what else to do. I am worried that having a family that loves him (which keeps him from suicide now) may someday not be enough and I will lose him. He is 49 years old and feels like his life is over.

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

He should definitely work with a psychiatrist .... They're experts in psych meds and I wouldn't wait until he gets a lot worse.... He can always go to emerg if he feels too low
Psych meds often work along with other tools that we use to help us
I was a psych nurse as well as having bipolar and I think I've only ever met one person who had to live in a psych institute due to having bipolar disorder so extreme that he was almost always in a constant state of mania
We have a treatable disorder..... He has to work with a doctor though when he's having problems...
Many of us including me are on a cocktail of meds..... Big hug.....I know it's hard when it's someone you love ... Please encourage him to get help from a psychiatrist.... That's who he needs to start off with..... xo
This doesn't just go away and it's biochemical ..... Even if it's depression only that's such a dangerous disorder to leave untreated
