Lamictal & Muscle Spasms

My therapist is recommending I try Lamictal. I was wondering if anyone has had muscle spasms as a side effect of this medication? I have a mild form of cerebral palsy, and previously on Zoloft I had serious complications. Apparently, a side effect of Zoloft is muscle spasms, but since my muscles are already incredibly tense when I experienced the spasms it just made my muscles get tenser and tenser to where I could barely walk and had to go to the ER and was given Valium to undo it. So, hence my new found hesitation to take psych meds.

Yes, I had muscle spasms for the first six weeks after starting Lamictal. Ultimately, they went away and never returned. I've now been taking it for over eight years. I agree with Becky that talking with your doctor and/or pharmacist is a good idea. I hope that you find a medication that works well for you!

Agree with talking with dr. Me personally- no issues or flare ups (prone to spasms with my spine disease).

I take Lamictal 200mg. I have for about 10 years and no problems. I agree, check with you Dr.
