I started lamictal last May 2007 at 50mg and by the end of June I was at 200mg. It stabilized me from that point until last Friday. Last Friday I totally freaked out cussing and graphic lude and nasty statements. This was totally out of character for me and was a bit like an out of body experience. I was so angry! Now I'm high as a kite. I'm talking a mile a minute and just all over hte place as if I'm super man(woman). Does Lamictal stop working? Is that what is happening to me? I don't want to talk to my pscy because I'm afraid he'll make me change again. Any advice?

I would call your pdoc. It could be setting off a hypomanic state. He may just need to lower your dose a little.

Lamictal does not necessarily help mania as well as other things. I had the same issue and now I'm on a near toxic dose of Lithium and Cymbalta. I would ask the doc to try a lithium cymbalta mix because it sounds like we are similar.

OK well let me throw a factor in mrtim! Lamictal is the safest (as I am told) medication for pregnant moms. So I don't want to change to protect the baby. Iknow that I have to be on meds I just don't want to be on meds that might hurt the baby. So that is partly why I'm so scared to go to the pscyh about this (malice1) and to make any changes (mrtim) I feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place with no real options. And feeling trapped is not a good thing for soemone who is bipolar!

if you are pregnant stay away from Litium if possible at least the first trimester and Forget depekote

I can't take lamictal too strong for me.

I am now back on depekene 250mg a day thats right, have to use a syringe to take the med without the needle lol.as the 250 dose is q8h

I should reexplain you take the 250 dose and divide it to equal 4 doses in one day... hope that clarifies

thanx Not2Sure... last time i saw my psych he said that I should go up a dose... I just don't think that is safe. He said that once the Lamictal was in my system whether I took a little bit or a lot o' bit didn't matter. Any Lamictal in the system would have the same risk high or low dosage. That seems like a load of bularky. A lot of drugs is worse than a little drugs in ANY CASE for ANY REASON. Too much ibuprofen lethal, too much tylenol lethal, too much sugar fattening :-) Catch my drift? what do you thinK?

Hey Tizzy...
Keep in mind that hormones play a HUGE factor in our moods. I was almost hypomanic on my Lamictal and Effexor while pregnant. But I was mostly stable...different trimesters can set us off too. It may just be a case of riding it out. Just be vigilant and try to record your moods - maybe there is a pattern? I'd be cautious going on other meds while pregnant.
Be patient with yourself, especially right now!!! Many blessings to you and baby!!!

My daughter takes Lamictal to stabilize her depressive episodes and anxiety, she is on Geodon to control the manic episodes. Not sure if Geodon is safe for pregnancy though since she is only 12 it wasn't a concern.

I started lamictal and welbutrin in may. I started having the same problem. My doc took me off welbutrin and put me at 200 lamictal. Now I am fine.

I have some questions before I give advice. Is this the first time you will be pregnant? How long have you been diagnosed with bp?
FYI: I have been diagnosed with bipolar I w/ psychotic features for 11 years now. I have 2 very healthy boys, ages 9 and 2 and I am due with my 3rd in June.

Ok I kind of had the same thing happen I have been on Lamictal for years. I think your body chemistry just changes. I also had a mania problem. They put me on a low dose of Seroquel for about the last 6 months with the Lamictal and Im doing really good. No problems
