This morning, I went to see a high-risk OB for the first time. She noticed the cocktail I am on works for me, and told me I need to stay on my meds while pregnant, or I may "get depressed... or... bipolar...", and then my pregnancy will be even more complicated. :0

If I got pregnant right now I'd give birth to a giant Trileptal with Invega feet. lol.

i'm wondering how i might feel about that. i think that would scare me. being on meds and being pregnant, but yet i wasnt diagnosed either with anything until after i had my kids. so i don't know. i don't know what i would do. i wish you luck.and hugggggggggs

Um... thanks. I'm not that scared of the medication. I've had a pregnancy from hell last year, and nothing scares me any more except the possibility to end up with a 25-week preemie.

I was just shocked that she had no idea what else to say about bipolar, and she treated bipolar as an episode. She did say "I am not a psychiatrist" an awfully large number of times, though.

I spoke to my pdoc about getting pregnant and she said I should stop all medications. We are looking into adoption because we won't know what will happen to me if I stop the meds. You are in my prayers

The pdoc says there are things that can be done, meds switched, stopped in first trimester, etc. I have done some research myself, and found that lithium is not as bad as the rep it's got, and lamictal could be OK, the main risk being cleft lips and palates (usually easily fixable). The OB said anti-psychotics are OK, for the most part. I will see. I am not a particularly suicidal type, so worst case scenario, I won't be able to work. That is a VERY bad scenario, but it's not life-threatening.
