I'm feeling a little better than I did a few days ago. I've always been a worry wart so I have the "what if" demons bothering me. The worst ones are those that bring up stuff from the past say stuff like, "what if you did it this way?" or "may you should of done this instead." Those are just a couple of examples.
There's nothing I can do about the past but as much I try, it won't leave me alone. I am in therapy so I'm learning a lot about myself.
Part of my problem is that I'm a people pleaser in which I want to keep people happy. I do this because I want to keep the peace. I grew up in a home where there was a lot of fighting because my mom what an alcoholic. It was such an awful time. I learned to do things that I thought would keep my mom and dad from fighting. this didn't always work of course.
I still do this today. I know I can't please everyone but it is hard to unlearn since I've been doing it for so long.
Best wishes to everyone on DS.

Mom and I have errands to run this morning. She said we can get sushi for lunch though. I go back to work today. What are you looking forward to this weekend?

Quick, before the evil MONday gets here! Let's climb those mountains, dance in the meadows, dip our feet in the ocean....Okay, so most of us won't be doing any of That. Sadly. But today can still be a great day!The area behind our back fence is on an incline, with less than two feet on even ground at the top. I don't balance well enough for the incline, but our mower guy mows that...

My Pdoc and I did a little experiment .
We sat down together and made an extensive list of all the WHAT IF'S that I had been worried about....it was a pretty long list .He filed the list away.
6 months later he pulled out my WHAT IF'S list.We went over it point by point.
NOT A SINGLE "WHAT IF" HAD COME TRUE !
This little lesson has helped me to slowly get rid of many of those pesky THAT IF thoughts
I do what ifs about the past...and the future, too. I don't realize how often. I find myself sucked in before I know it and can spend hours ruminating in the back of my mind :/
Thanks Tommy for the article you posted!
I too struggle with my past and bad memories. Therapy is the best thing for this. Don't be afraid to bring up these issues with your therapist, they may have ideas for you.
