Anyone else deal with this fun combination?
I keep myself locked away in a small house for the most part and a great deal of the time I only go out when there's an essential reason to, which can sometimes take weeks. When I do go out, I only go to a couple of familiar places, but soon find myself quick to leave because of the apathy. The apathy is prevalent while at home too. The frustration of being cut off is more comfortable to the insecurities of being outside in the world.
Do people who deal with this just keep pushing and forcing themselves to go out to new places until it finally feels right to do?

Some things we don't talk about, we breathe them... Some things cannot be explained, but rather experienced. Some of the most healing moments arise when given the memory, acknowledging the love. One cannot go back in time; we move forward, and we carry the love we shared. No one but ourselves has the power to do so, or the permission to do so, but ourselves. So live life with your faith and...

I do know what you mean about getting out and about to try and trigger the change to enjoying and wanting being in the world. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.

Right now your world is your home and inside your head on the internet. You know it is not healthy long term and you need to take baby steps to realign and anchor yourself to the world outside your door. Can you go for small walks somewhere nice in your neighbourhood? I isolated for months over winter and got a massive Vitamin D deficiency, they couldn't find ANY in my blood. Vitamin D helps mood and bones. If you can't get outside in the sunshine, I suggest supplements.
For the most part I can push myself out when I start to isolate, I have close people who try to help me with this also so that helps. But there are times I just can't do it. I just don't want to and do not feel the need to. Sometimes the idea can be scary even.
I think what mental state we are in at the time has a lot to do with it. =)
Yet I feel surprisingly better now that I am home. I am forcing myself to study New Testament Greek for my exam tomorrow. Now that is forcing combine with apathy. I don't mind the translating but the parsing stuff just kills me.
My rule is this: I allow myself time alone when depressed and then when I have had enough I start to force myself out of my hole.
Not easy but the more you do it the easier it becomes.
I think the frustration of not knowing whether our emotional or mental state can be changed by going out in the first place factors in here. Like shiningsoul mentions, it's not healthy long term to stay locked away due to the benefits of being out in the world......yet when we're in such an unhealthy state for it to make a difference we retreat when we don't see enough results.
A vicious circle.
Other times, anxiety rules, and I go home..but I do have to give myself positive credit for trying
I do push myself now sometimes. Take baby steps at first. It will eventually feel right.
