Technically, dysphoria is a form of depression, but it is considered a bit less severe than hard-core depression. You can have dysyphoria and be hypomanic at the same time, and that would be like a form of a "mild" mixed state...

absolutely not 'the same', is my understanding. Experience both...mixed far more extreme & you usually get stuck in a locked psych against your will (it's clinical 'mania shot through with severe depression) highest risk of completed suicide too, I think- mixed state.

dysphoria..is tinged with hypomania..nowhere near as out of control. Still Yuk.

I'm in a mixed state right now. My doc just changed my meds today because of it. It freaking sucks.

This is my first real mixed state and they're absolutely horrible/suck. My doc said we're not going the hospital route yet so that's good, but for now I'm in a constant state of agitation and depression and crying and anger and half the time I don't know what the fuck is going on to be honest.

So that's my take on mixed states. Not the same as dysporia in my book.

I thought dysphoria was the negative side of euphoria. Not as in slow, miserable depression, but irritated, agitated. Without the feeling good part. Dsy means against in Greek, and phoria means, "to bear, carry; feeling (mental state)" I suffered from dysphoria for many years, till I got my mind a bit straightened around. I tend to go there, but rarely have true depression.

Wikipedia says, "Dysphoria is usually experienced during depressive episodes, but in people with bipolar disorder, it may also be experienced during manic or hypomanic episodes." If that is right, never know with Wiki! It seems to be used a lot of ways if you google it. I think I will ask my pdoc next time around.
