Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. So, I moved into this house last fall. It's in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by woods and farms. I'm not an idiot, I knew to expect a fair share of insects and wild life. That comes with living in the country, but, because of when we moved in we didn't have to deal with it much until now.
Now there are insects everywhere!!! Spiders, ants, moths, grasshoppers, and, the worst of all, stink bugs. For the life of me I can't figure out how they're getting in.
The spiders, moths and grasshoppers I can live with. They're just doing what bugs do, so why mess with them if they aren't messing with me, right? I even find my self quoting Terminator on a daily basis, saying (or at least thinking) "Come with me if you want to live!" as I rescue the little critters from my cats and shoo them outside.
But the stink bugs and ants are driving me nuts! The ants seem to have the magical ability to appear out of nowhere and the stink bugs apparently think it's funny to scare the crap out of me by flying straight into my hair. Of course, those bugs the cats have no interest in.
I'm doing what I can to convince them that my house is NOT a good home, putting down diatomaceous earth, making sure they don't have a access to food or water, but I know I'm going to have to accept their annoying presence...
I just needed to rant. Back to cleaning I go.... grumble grumble

Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.

For the ants, put down a little dry cream of wheat - they will eat it, and then when they drink water it expands to 3x it's size (or however much it expands) and kills them. Plus, it's safe for your cats, since it won't make them sick. They also carry it back to the nest, and it will kill the ones there too. In my experience, it works very well.
Spray your baseboards, kitchen counters with Apple Cider Vinegar...... anyplace you see ants .
The Apple Cider Vinegar destroys the "chem trail " that the ants follow and shrivels them up.
I live in orchard country, ants are a huge problem...give the apple cider a try and good luck

I know it sounds really strange, but I have a really hard time killing insects. When I was a kid it would take me forever to walk anywhere because I'd be staring at the ground making sure that I wasn't stepping on ants!! Unless something is biting me or is a direct threat to my health I feel awful about even thinking of squishing it. Putting down diatomaceous earth (a human and pet safe powder that dehydrates insects) bothers me to no end. I feel bad for the bugs.... I'm hopeless, I know.
If it really starts to get out of hand, I'll take more direct action. Right now I'm just trying to make them lose interest. I picked up lavender infused cleaning spray to chase away the ants. The smell confuses them and masks their scent trail, so they avoid it. It worked at my last house, so I'll see if it works again... It's an on going battle and gets frustrating, hence my original ranting post lol
At least the local field mice have figured out to avoid my house! I have six cats and last fall a young mouse was stupid enough to come inside. I found it completely surrounded by the cats, terrified into playing dead. I rescued it and put it in the barn. Haven't seen another since. I guess he spread the word!!
