i have bp was diagnosed this june im kin of releaved to no whats been wrong with me all these years, but i do get scared i think i have been having mixed episodes but am not sure. I am due to start lamotrgine on tuesday along side my prozac, i have tried 4 other antidepresents and they dont work this gas been the best 1 but i still struggle, my family dont understand even though they try an my husband just thinks i will get better but i do think at some point i will loose him and he is my world and my rock, hes not the most patient person in the world or he is just with 1 person our daughter. I not sure what to expect with my new med but anything has got to be better than this but i also need to get my marriage back on track to can anybody advice me on these tablets as i dont no what may happen.

What’s the biggest challenge in your life right now?
Lamictal (lamotrigine) is an anticonvulsant medication used as a mood stabilizer. It has worked very well for me and generally has less side effects than many of the other bipolar meds. However, your doctor should be starting you at a low dose (typically 25 mg) and titrating up slowly, because Lamictal can cause a rash known as Stevens-Johnson syndrome in some people. If you get a rash, be certain to contact your doctor immediately.
Most of my side effects occurred during the titration...primarily major stomach/leg cramps and some flu-like symptoms. Now, the only side effect I experience is mild cognitive impairment (short-term memory loss, difficulty with word recall). Many people also have what is known as the "Lamictal headache," but that often gets better after the initial titration.
I'm glad to hear that your doctor is pairing the Prozac with a mood stabilizer. In many bipolars, anti-depressants alone can cause rapid cycling or bring on a manic episode. That happened to me a couple of years ago.
