Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

but because I follow science and I love neurology
this has always been a question in my mind
is the government working on mind control? If you do some research on neurology there is a lot of a scary stuff in the works. Once the crack the inner workings of our brains all they would need to do is find a way to rewire it (like a computer) and add the necessary chemicals and bam! Human slave.

if you think this is made up and a crack pot fiction idea from a sci fi book think again. New findings are always being discovered by neurologists' research.
Are you concerned about this? And while this could be a cure for many humans who might need a little "brain" rewiring what are it's limits?
Do you think this is too much like playing god?
Do feel that science has gone too far?
What are your thoughts on this?

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

Also if your brain chemistry could be fixed we too would benefit.
So there are good things that could come from it.
But on the other hand I don't want to be a slave where the government plants ideas in my head. I don't particularly like the idea of my thoughts being controlled or even watched by some one else.
Technology is wonderful but when will it go too far? Has it already gone too far.
of course they would love it.
i guess if they rewired us to be happy being a slave then we wouldn't know any different....
I'm not bothered by it. I'm an open book. Maybe my brain would be better if they diddled around with it a little!!!!
I like where Science is going and I don't worry too much about them abusing what they find. It's amazing what they are finding out and I think that a lot of it might lead to great things.
But what if we could re write every one's brains. Would we all be perfect human beings?
And what if one person was controlling it all, and that person were corrupt? Who would be able to stand up against them?
I agree science is awesome and we have made many wonderful and amazing accomplishments but what happens when we go against nature? Is it for the greater good or is it for our ultimate doom. There could be unforeseen consequences.
Yes Carla I should have link his source but if you click on the link

you can read the article for your self. And I think that popularmechanics is a reasonably acceptable reference. But you can decide that on your own.
They have been doing it for years in different ways, but yes I agree it's going to far. A way of population control. The rich stay rich, the governments keep control, and the rest stay medicated.
One of the statements picked out was "If we could access every neuron, and spent long enough analyzing the data, we could figure out in great detail what a person is seeing or thinking.
Possibly. So how many neurons are there. Answer is about 100,000,000,000. So all you need to do is look at 100,000,000,000 things, work out their state (I'm not sure whether they actually are binary).
Tell the person to think about "red" - then examine the brain when it's thinking red.
Imagine you can look at one neuron and analyse it's state in one hundredth of a second. It would take 63 years to work out what all the neurons are doing when someone is thinking about red. Now for the other colours..then putting that together as a more complex thought...
Bit of a challenge, really.
Maybe it seems impossible to you but it is only a matter of time before some one does decode the brain! You see something as impossible I see something that is a matter of time.
Even if it takes 63 years to develop something like that, that is a relatively small amount of time, and We are the ones who have to pay attention to it. Because once that technology is already developed it is too late, you can bet that the government will be using it.
It is the complacent attitude of I don't have to worry about it now because it hasn't happened yet. Well with an attitude like that we will be powerless to stop it when it does happen.
I know that each of us is powerless to do anything any how but we should pay attention to it. Not enough people were paying attention that is how a lot of negative things went down. Also read the whole article, we have experts saying that something like this which is not 100% reliable could end up being used in a court system. Think of the implications of that.
Also my research comes from many sources not just that alone accurious do you really want me to list them all? I'm not going to do every one's home work for them. I'm just bringing this to the table.
But to be honest, since they have been involved in the past with MKULTRA/MKSEARCH I really wouldn't put certain things past them..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_MKULTRA
Am I really concerned with this? Not really - what can I do? It used to bother me A LOT, but then I was like hmm whats the point, seriously it's not like I can change much - just be aware & critical of things.. Is it like playing God - hrmm.. I don't think so - unethical, yes - very. Science too far - hmm.. Science loves to go far, the question is of ethics, but people will always push it.
I said it would take 63 years to make the first calculation - not it would take 63 years to get this technology.
On the flip side if you could work everything out it would be a step in the direction of being able to basically transfer mind into machine, eternal life in virtual reality. (That's the idea put forward by maverick businessman Ray Kurzweil) That throws up many many issues and possibilities and obviously the implications of that dwarf anything about mind control.
It's worth noting that mind control is a bit pointless - governments and businesses can more or less get complience from their citizens in other much cheaper ways so why bother?
Sorry this is worrying you but I suspect it is a fair way off and if it happens there will be a lot of other things to think about.
Lack of knowledge is my delima. If I knew more I could do more.
Historically they first use new recruits in the armed services first but then I wouldn't put it past them to expand their test subjects under the lie of it is good for the greater good.
If they could do this successfully they would but I know they can't.
