I absolutely hate health insurance companies here in the US. I have gone through 13 different sleep medications. Only one works for me: Ambien CR (extended release). Some of the other get me to sleep but I wake up 5 hours later (it is always 5 hours later) and can't get back to sleep. I cannot function on 5 hours. I will start to cycle into hypomania and depression on 5 hours of sleep after a week or so. I have gotten the Ambien before with no problems from the insurance companies, but now they have "changed their policies" (aka we decided we were spending too much money actually helping people). Apparently the laundry list of drugs I have tried and my diagnosis of BP and anxiety aren't enough. They want my pdoc to send them research stating why I need to be on Ambien CR over all of the other sleep meds. Oh really? You need a reason. I'll give you a fucking reason: don't pay for my meds and you will pay for a hospital visit you morons. I will also find you and your "policies' and beat the crap out of you. So here I am on Lunesta as a stopgap until my Ambiean CR prescription can get approved. So here's to sleepless nights and insurance company angst.
