I have issues with Thanksgiving more so than Christmas. Then again, this year I'm making most gifts - screw the shopping. I'm going to try to do the remainder of my shopping online. I only have my husband and mom left.

The holidays really trigger me. I do my best to try to make the best of it for my kids.

What I hate about the holidays are all the stupid questions from people who think they have the right to meddle into your life even if they only see you once a year! I am NOT looking forward to that this Thanksgiving. :/

I'm not a fan of Christmas. Christ would be horrified by the greed, commercialism and orgyistic materialism. But Thanksgiving, what's not to love! It is a holiday about giving thanks, family and food.

I used to hate holidays after my wife divorced me on Thanksgiving day, nice having an uncle judge.

But i've been cooking Thannksgiving and Christmas diner for 100 less fortunate souls every year for the last ten. Gets my mind off of relation that are either dead or don't care, and gives those with nothing some semblance of home. Gonna be hard this year though cuz it's 20 out and my bones are old and tired........lolzerz

Should add a caveat here for DD. DD, I really liked your post here. I'm so sorry about the loss of your daughter. My mom died on Christmas. She would have been angry at me for dissing Christmas, wouldn't have let me get away with not enjoying it.

So, ok, attitude adjustment here because of DD's post and the memory of my mom. While I despise the commercialism, I like the lights and some of the songs and the Christmas parties. Also, a celebration of the person who was the basis for the beautiful words and ideas found in the Gospels, not a bad thing at all.

I, Freeheeler, will do my darndest to enjoy Christmas this year.

I love the holidays if they are done right. It's so commercialized. You guys are right; people are greedy. It's like road rage with shopping carts in walmart. I do love the fresh smell of a christmas tree in my house and giving gifts. I am a christian so christmas means more to me than gift giving.

Since I took the focus off of what "other" people do and the materialism of this world, I enjoy the holidays a great deal more. I make of it what works for myself and my family and dont allow others to take that joy away.

For myself I find it ironic that when I worked for other people I looked forward to having the day off and enjoying it with family.But now working for myself it's a major inconvience to miss a day of the work week,the loss of income for that day can be a major problem. I am thankful to be able to work and work for myself so I will enjoy the holiday. I'm not even thinking about Christmas yet but I don't spend much money on it and therefore others know not to spend much money on me for Christmas and this way I can enjoy that holiday also.As far as family,I take them for who they are.

Take a stand and ban them for yourself
