I agree with Firefly. There is no need to explain why. That will only burn your bridges and make it an uncomfortable situation.

firefly is right. You just state the message and say a kind 'thanks' to let them know you are leaving on ok terms. To try to explain just degrades and sometimes insults those in charge. If anyone presses you, just repeat over like a broken record 'personal reasons'. You cannot control what anyone thinks and some my be mad anyway, but ah well. Mostly people are busy in their lives and just say, 'oh, ok'.

When one is overcome by emotion especially "anger" it is wise not to verbally engage anyone in authority... your perspective may not be shared by others and it could affect a reference you need to get another job... ensure you are leaving within the "specified" time they require ie. two weeks notice... I would cite "personal reasons in your life" as your excuse and that way all parties are ok with the request....

If I were you, write a letter like others have said and ask for a written reference if they will give one so you will have some idea what they will say should a future employer call you... ((hugs)) polar

I guess the one other thing I would add is, have you been wanting to quit your job for sometime now, or do you feel that way now because of your anger? If so, you might want to wait a day, just to make sure you still feel like this tomorrow....

But if you've been planning on this for awhile, go for it! You deserve to be treated with respect.

I agree with Harriet. Sometimes it's best when we're angry to wait until we calm down a bit to make such a big decision. However, if you have been thinking you need to move on for a while now, then I think that Firefly's letter is a good one. Hugs and good luck!
