Bipolar Disorder Support Group
Bipolar disorder is not just a single disorder, but a category of mood disorders marked by periods of abnormally high energy and euphoria, often accompanied by bouts of clinical depression. This is the place to talk about your experience with bipolar disorder, learn from others' experiences, and find support.

A couple of hours ago I read this story about nearly 50 pit bulls rescued by the NYPD from a basement "arena" where they were being bred and forced to fight.
After reading this story, I can't get it out of my head. I'm so glad that they are now free and hope they are able to find their forever home despite rampant ignorant prejudice against their breed. But it also brings me such sorrow that mere words cannot express it because I know that this is the fate of so many others. It truly breaks my heart and now HAUNTS MY EVERY WAKING THOUGHT!
I know this happens but when I hear or read about it, I try to push it from my thoughts as quickly as I can because I honestly just cannot bear it! I am typing only between shaking fits and I can barely even see what I am typing through my tears.
I have a connection with and empathy for dogs that I cannot begin to explain or even understand. Many times I crave their company more than people. My life without one is often unbearable. I very much hope that there is a heaven for dogs and when I die, that is where I want to go.
I'm not sure I will even sleep tonight at all. I already took all my meds for the night including anxiety pills before this even happened.
I wish I never even read it...some of them had never even seen sunlight. :'(

Here is my new brother, copper :) He's so tiny! Moo and Tuck were ok with him on first meeting. Rocket due to his severe aggression will never meet Cooper.

I work my way thru it by only adopting, no pet store 'purchases', donating to the local no kill shelter, and hope to volunteer soon.
That doesn't stop what you're talking about, but feels better when I help when/where I can.
I wish they could all be saved. Bless them.
These horrors have a profound effect on me as well... I often don't understand the brutality that can be the human condition
I'm glad talking to your friend helped...x
I can usually keep myself composed but other times, I basically lose it.
I am very empathic when it comes dogs and, to some extent, other animals in general.
When I lived in the Atlanta metro area, I volunteered with two adoption groups and though it sometimes made me a little sad, it was offset by knowing it was a euthanasia prevention group and all the animal there would find a home. At one, I helped them all work on learning tricks and obedience but mostly just took them all for walks/runs so they could get outside. At the other, I would go to their once a month adoption 'parties' where Petsmart allowed them to set up in a large section inside and outside their doors to let everyone see the Labradors people in their group where currently fostering.
I haven't done that since I moved back though. I work full time and then some at my job and stayed exhausted by my chronic pain. Now, it's so bad that I can't even work but when I get better, I hope to do more volunteer work.
