Hypnosis

Has anyone had a therapist use hypnosis to recover suppressed memories. My therapist did this yesterday and it brought me back to my bedroom and my fathers abuse. It was like I was there and that little child. I think I'm still processing that session. It was very intense.

Hypnosis to bring up suppressed memories has received some discredit in recent years .

Many psychiatrists and psychologists do not believe the memories to be real, but distortions of memories .

I am sure , given what you remembered , it was intense.

I wish you luck in exploring this avenue of treatment , but take the information as a whole .

I've often wanted to try it.... A good friend of mine who's a therapist warned me that if I ever do go this route to make sure the therapist goes slowly..
It must have been very difficult... Big hug of comfort for you...x

The memories were very real. I was really there. I know when a memory is real. I tried to change the subject, but she asked me what I was feeling. She always knows what is going on even when I don't LOL. She brought me out so we could talk about how I felt about it. I was OK in her office (a very safe place), but later on the feelings got much more intense. The other really good therapist I had tried to bring me back there, but I resisted to much. I knew the memories from that time would not be pleasant.

    Once again I've had a fever today. I'm not going to the hospital because that's a huge waste of time but I did schedule a dr appointment for Wednesday afternoon.
