how would you feel?

so last nite during my racing thoughts, i stumbled on a thought that made me really think. how would you feel if ur psychiatrist gave you a placebo (sugar pill) and said it would help with the bipolor and u took it and felt sooo much better ..like the real you and you told ur psych that and he/she said it wasnt the pill, it was you..changing the way u thought etc. on one hand u werent really sick like you thought and can live a happy healthy life but on the other, all ur feelings must feel not validated...how would you feel? i think i would feel not validated and hurt a little..even though it was all a state of mind...id kinda of be pissed lol. just wondering how you guys would feel?

It may help once or twice but a placebo wouldn't continue to help... I'd think I was given the wrong diagnosis and let's figure out what's going on smile..xo

lol thats true....u know wen people tell me its all a state of mind and u can stop it or change it if u wanted to i always feel so small..like im not doing my best...i guest someone who is really bipolar would know the fake pills arent working...like me...finally i found depakote to work really well after like 6 tries with others

I don't know how I would feel. I think I would be finding a different shrink. One who would give me real meds not placebos. Because as Suncloud said, a placebo might work once or twice, but it wouldn't continue to work.

it would bug me. it would make me think that my disease is `all in my head' or not real.
i talked to my pdoc about placebos, and he said that the more expensive the placebo, the better it works. weird huh.

I've read a classic study on depression comparing placebo to effexor. (not all people who experience depression are BP) The effexor caused abatement of symptoms in 45% of patients while placebo caused abatement of symptoms in 25% of patients. Pretty impressive. The thing is that there are more aspects to treatment than meds and we should embrace them all. As far as being upset if your doc pulled something that helped but you felt uncomfortable with...it might be good to learn to live with it.

    Woke up feeling very emotional and about to clock in at my place of employment. And can't place it all in writing but not been a good experience with my store manager or his boss. Defamation of my character is a concern. I've been losing appetite and weight. Trying to perform at work to keep myself from hospitalization as a result of toxic masculinity.
